The main character, Cate, is a strong YA heroine who I loved rooting for. I have the whole trilogy so I will continue but ugh. For some fucking reason, I thought this was an adult novel.

Show at least some energy. She will not be spotxwood people tell her to be. I thought it could have used a bit more action throughout but it was still really great! There were a lot of obstacles in this story, and I wish I could have helped Cate overcome them.

Ultimately, this book is too angsty for me. This was due to two main things. She takes care of the household as well as her two younger sisters. The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion.
